OK, so here’s the deal: There’s been rumors circulating many theme park blogs and sites that Universal Orlando could be looking at Star Trek as another franchise to convert into an attraction.
For example, Attractions Magazine reported if Universal did plan to bring the crew of the Enterprise and their universe to Orlando, it would most likely replace Shrek 4-D, which is at Universal Studios Florida.
“We’ve heard Star Trek is at the top of Universal’s list as a potential successor for Shrek’s venue. In this rumored concept, guests would take the role of Starfleet Academy cadets and join the USS Enterprise on an expedition.
To any nerd, the thought of a Star Trek attraction is mind-boggling and could create just as much fan fervor as Universal had when it opened the Harry Potter attractions.
Well, maybe not as much unless Universal built an actual area themed after venues and landmarks key to the Star Trek franchise — a walkable Enterprise deck, anyone?
But take this all with a grain of salt as it’s nothing more than a rumor at this point. And Universal, as we know, does not comment on such rumors.
